Wise Health System’s Board of Governors announced Tuesday that Carey Williams has been appointed its new chairman.

Williams was selected by the board of directors to replace Andrew Sandford, who relinquished the position after serving for nearly six years. Sandford will continue to serve on the board as a member.

“Carey has been an integral part of our board of directors since being appointed in 2014,” said Wise Health System CEO Jason Wren. “He has been very involved with the growth and development of Wise Health System initiatives and has a shared goal of working toward fulfilling the mission and vision of the hospital with our leadership team.

“We are confident that Carey will provide outstanding leadership for our board of directors going forward.”

Williams, a Decatur native, is the general manager at James Wood Motors in Decatur. He previously served on the Wise Health Foundation Board of Directors, the Decatur Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and has been active in the Decatur Economic Development Corp., the Decatur Education Foundation, the Look Local Campaign and the United Way of Wise County, among many other organizations. He was named Decatur Citizen of the Year in 2013.
