James Wood – 2016 Chevrolet Dealer of the Year

Chevrolet honored James Wood Motors as one of its Top Fifty Dealerships in the Nation for 2016 on July 18 at an informal dinner at Go Go Gumbo in Boyd, a local legend with a decor that features license plates and traffic signs.
The dealership previously had won the award in 2000, only a decade after becoming a Chevy dealer. James Wood has been a General Motors dealer since 1978, when he bought the Decatur franchise for GMC Truck, Buick, Pontiac and Oldsmobile.
Dallas zone manager Grant Lindsay told Wood employees that the award puts the Decatur dealership in the top one-and-a-half percent of all 3,000 Chevrolet retailers.
Dealer Raymond Wood and founder James Wood accepted a handsome glass trophy and banner on behalf of their 188 coworkers who did their part to deserve the honor.
The award covers all aspects of a dealership’s operation, including new and pre-owned vehicle sales, parts sales and service. The goal of Wood employees has always been to keep customers happy and coming back for years and years, whatever their need.
Dealership executive manager Carey Williams pointed out that “We are only as good as our people. We’re all determined to do what we do best, take care of our customers.”
Williams noted that Wood’s 23 managers have been with the company an average of 22 years, giving the dealership a solid base of experienced leaders. Many of them have been closely involved with civic projects of all kinds.
“You have an amazing record of giving back to the community,” pointed out Bob Krapes, the automaker’s South Central regional director. “You have amazing facilities, and in Detroit when Chevrolet executives want to know something about trucks, they call James Wood.”
Krapes said that in his multi-state region, only 10 dealers received the top honor in 2016. Ever the salesman for Chevrolet, Krapes challenged James Wood employees to “Do it again next year, not wait another 16 years!”
Helping congratulate dealership employees was longtime Chevy go-to person Vicki Kidd. The district manager is retiring after 35 years with General Motors. She started her career with Oldsmobile.
In nearby Denton, James Wood has been a GM dealer for 26 years. New Buicks, Cadillacs, Chevrolets and GMCs are sold there. That facility also is a dealer for Isuzu medium-duty trucks.
The national honor is the second James Wood in Decatur has received this year.  For a second time in three years, Hyundai named Wood’s dealership as its United States leader in customer satisfaction.
